What are a Museum House?
by Begoña Torres González
Museum houses are real houses, intimate spaces of life in which, even today, the presence of those who inhabited them can be felt. As historic and unique homes, they are part of history, of daily life and of the individual and collective memory of a place, while guarding a Cultural Heritage that is not only visible and material (furniture, knickknacks, paraphernalia, textiles, etc..), but also immaterial, allusive and symbolic, which is related to the uses of each room, everyday life, social customs, fashions, tastes, decorative and artistic trends, hierarchies and social and family roles, etc.
They represent, therefore, a meeting point for the reflection and study of all the activities that man could develop in their spaces, being sites for the exercise of the imagination and the remembrance. For this reason, the museum houses are highly attractive spaces for both Spanish and foreign consumers of culture, who along the visit live a more intimate cultural experience, resulting from a true journey of the imagination, equipped with extensive didactic qualities.
